This is a family favorite of ours. This Garlic Murukku is one of my childhood favorite snack and my mom makes the best Garlic Murukku. I wanted to post this recipe for long time but did not get chance and now after seeing all other blogs with the Diwali Sweets & Savories recipes i too wanted to share few recipes here and this Garlic Murukku is first in the row :) Poondu murukku, garlic murukku is a flavourful twist to the regular murukku you prepare. I have made this as tiny mini murukku.

Steps to make Garlic murukku:
  1. Soak garlic and red chillies in warm water for 20 minutes, then grind it to a smooth paste, keep aside.
  2. In a bowl add flour, gram flour, prepared garlic paste, butter, sesame seeds and salt, mix well.
  3. Now add water little by little and prepare a smooth dough.
  4. Take the star mould and keep in the chakli maker.
  5. Grease the chakli maker with oil.
  6. Fill the chakli maker with dough and press the machine to make spiral shaped chaklis.
  7. Heat oil in a kadai.
  8. When it gets heated, reduce the flame to low.
  9. Drop 3-4 chaklis in hot oil and cook both the sides on low-medium flame until crispy and golden.
  10. Remove in a tissue paper.
  11. Serve or store in air tight container.

It turns out flavourful, super crispy. Whenever my in-laws visit kumbakonam, they make sure to buy sweets and snacks apart from coffee powder and other stuffs. Garlic Murukku, Poondu Murukku, Vellulli Murukulu or chakli is easy murukku recipe with minimal ingredients. This Garlic murukku is super delicious it's crunchy yet soft with wonderful garlic flavor. I love garlic and garlic or poondu murukku is one of my favorite and also to try something different than regular murukku or chakli for diwali I made this.
